PANIC: How does it show itself?
Panic is anxiety which erupts sponteniously and uninvited in both physical sensations and emotional distress. Some physical sensations are rapid heart beat, sweating, dizziness, feeling flushed, or trembling, for example, when driving across a bridge, leaving a safe place or facing a transition. Existential panic elicits feelings of unsafety, emotional and cognitive distortions and in its most uncomfortable state, feels like you are momentarily "losing your mind" or your self control. Intense panic and anxiety can be born out of trauma that is seeping through your defenses. Trauma and panic are also linked to early attachment. Think about it like this: when you were a two-year and were abruptly taken from your parent, you reacted strongly with an urgency and loud cries, seeking reassurence.
